A Legacy of Service

Honoring John C. Boswell

The John C. Boswell Scholarship honors the legacy of a WWII Navy Corpsman who served with the 3rd Marine Division. In February 1945, during the 33 day Battle of Iwo Jima, John valiantly applied his medical skills to save the lives of gravely wounded soldiers, demonstrating extraordinary courage when it mattered most.

Following a distinguished 23-year career in the Navy, John displayed his leadership as the manager of the HemisFair Holiday Inn in San Antonio, which thrived under his direction. Beyond his professional achievements, John was a devoted family man. He was married for 53 years and took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, whom he affectionately dubbed “Boswell City” in Midlothian.

United by a belief in the transformative power of education, John Boswell, and Heritage of Heroes, Co-Founders, Tracie Abbate and Tom Holder, established this scholarship to reward student determination.

We honor John’s legacy by supporting the driven goals he championed for the leaders of tomorrow. Read John’s complete bio and veteran story.
