What We Do

The Heritage of Heroes honors veterans and supports the people behind the stories. We are focused on preserving the complete story of military service members, encompassing the time before, during, and after their careers. Our goal is to transform their heritage into a lasting legacy.

This preservation effort also includes civilian war survivors and those from past wars who are no longer with us, including our Gold Star families.

John C. Boswell Scholarship©

The John C. Boswell Scholarship honors the legacy of a WWII Navy Corpsman who served with the 3rd Marine Division. On February 1945, the Battle of Iwo Jima lasting 33 days, during the Battle of Iwo Jima, John valiantly applied his medical skills to save the lives of gravely wounded soldiers, demonstrating extraordinary courage when it mattered most.

Following a distinguished 23-year career in the Navy, John displayed his leadership as the manager of the HemisFair Holiday Inn in San Antonio, which thrived under his direction. Beyond his professional achievements, John was a devoted family man. He was married for 53 years and took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, whom he affectionately dubbed “Boswell City” in Midlothian.

United by a belief in the transformative power of education, John Boswell, Tracie Abbate, and Tom Holder established this scholarship to reward student determination.

We honor John’s legacy by supporting the driven goals he championed for the leaders of tomorrow.

In his honor, this scholarship is awarded to a student recognized for outstanding scholastic performance, artistic contributions to the Fine Arts, or excellence in electives that further their educational goals.
